THE SOUL BEHIND
THE LENS

Hello there,  my name is Juliette Cooke, and whether your motivation for reading this is creativity or curiosity this is my photographic story. My love for photography bloomed out of pursuing the study of film photography in 2008 at Florida Keys Community College. I learned the finer points in patience of a single photograph at an early period in my career. Studying the traditional method of using film enhanced my ability to see beyond the scope of what can be portrayed through an image and how it can affect the viewer. This experimental hobby soon led me to my former full-time career as a photojournalist, although I found myself creating images in the darkroom during my free time.

Pursuing photojournalism at The Daily Reflector has taught me just that, how to reflect on our daily lives and tell a story from them. For 3 years I’ve been crafting the art of photographing humans candidly in their natural habitat. Whether it be on the football field, in a doctors office, in an abandoned house in the tall Carolina grass, I have learned a deep intimacy with my subjects and how to capture them accordingly.

Asheville, North Carolina is where I call home. Thank you for reading and always feel free to reach out!
